You will need to bring the following to the DMV when you’re ready to take your written Permit Test and Vision Test:

  • An Affidavit of Liability and Guardianship (DR2460) signed by a parent, stepparent,

Once You Have Your Driver Education Permit
You are required to take a Behind the Wheel course if you are under the age of 16 years, 6 months old (unless you live over 30 miles from a full-time driver education school). You may only drive with a driver education instructor and the person who signed your Affidavit of Liability in order for it to count towards your required 50 hours of driving. You must have your driver education permit for at least 12 months before you can apply for your Colorado driver's license. A driver education permit is valid for three years from the date issued.

    Form DR2460
  • While you have your driver education permit, only the adult who signed the DR2460 and/or your Driver Education Instructor are allowed to complete and log the required 50 hours on the drive time log sheet.
  • Whoever signed the DR2460 can also allow someone who is 21 years of age or older (with a valid Colorado driver's license) to drive with you. However, the time you spend driving with them will not be counted towards the 50 total hours required on the log sheet.
